Matcha Chocolate Chips

Every time I go into a grocery store I immediately head over to the bakery aisle to see what’s new. Every time I’ll look at the chocolate chip section to see if there’s any interesting flavors that came out. Every time I’d spot something bright green and immediately get excited thinking that some company finally started to sell matcha chocolate chips. Every time I’d get disappointed because the green chocolate chips I’d see on the shelves were actually mint flavored chips and I hate mint 🙁

Since I constantly get let down that I can’t find matcha chocolate chips at my local grocery store I’ve decided to take it upon myself to just make my own! This recipe is super easy because it only requires 2 ingredients, matcha powder and white chocolate. The hard part is just having to pipe them all out, but the job passes by pretty quickly because you can just mindlessly pipe while watching some Netflix.

I don’t own a piping bag at home so I just used a ziplock bag to make these chips. The results weren’t bad (if I do say so myself) so I’d definitely recommend just using a plastic bag as an alternative if you don’t happen to have a piping bag anywhere nearby. Just remember to make the hole in the ziplock bag super tiny or you’ll end up with some giant chocolate chips.

2 heaping tablespoons of matcha powder

Instructions

  1. Chop up the white chocolate pieces and put them into a microwave safe bowl
  2. Microwave the chocolate at 15 second intervals until all the chocolate has been melted (make sure to stir the chocolate every interval to ensure it doesn't burn in the microwave)

  4. Mix until the matcha has been fully incorporated into the chocolate
  5. Open up a ziplock bag and pour the chocolate into one corner of the bag
  6. Line a baking tray with parchment paper
  7. Cut an itsy bitsy hole in the corner of the ziplock bag that the chocolate is in
  8. Pipe the matcha chocolate onto the parchment paper
  9. Once done piping, store the baking tray in a cool place until the chocolate is firm
  10. Transfer the chips to a lidded container and either eat alone or mix into your next baking creations!
